Types of Mould
Penicillium

- Allergenic form of mould that is easily recognisable by its blue or green coloured surface with a velvety texture
- Often found in water damaged buildings
- Commonly presents wherever organic material is available
- Normally a result of recent water damage
- Is normally a green or white colour
- Will grow within a few days if the conditions are right
- Likes to grow on dust and debris
- Is used in food and medication
Cladosporium

- Can grow in both warm and cold conditions
- Often found thriving in indoor materials such as fabrics, upholsteries and carpets
- They are normally dark looking. It is a fungi and includes some of the most common indoor and outdoor moulds
- Species produce olive-green to brown or black colonies
- Often found on bathroom ceilings etc
Stachybotrys

- Stachybotrys is also known as the nefarious “black mould”
- It is a toxigenic type of mould that can also cause allergic reactions
- Stachybotrys mould is dark greenish or black in colour and has a slimy texture
- Stachybotrys thrives in damp, wet areas with high humidity levels that maintain these environmental conditions for weeks
- It is known for growing on cellulose material such as woods, cardboard, paper, hay or wicker
